What I offer:
Tutoring in Spanish, mathematics, creative and essay writing for the Santa Barbara and Ventura areas.
One of the greatest gifts homeschooling offers us is the freedom to choose how we present learning to our children. We already know that learning doesn't have to be limited to a classroom. Why not take advantage of the beauty we live close to and surround ourselves with nature while covering our chosen curriculum?
While I recognize that learning happens everywhere and all the time, our sessions will be focused specifically on academics. I will work with your family, listening closely to students, as we choose our subjects and the best way to cover them.
About Naomi:
I was born and raised in Santa Barbara and live on the Mesa with my father, husband, and three children. I lived in Mexico for two years when I married, and later for an additional year with our whole family. Studying Spanish at SBCC opened my life up to so many new experiences! I enjoy sharing the language with others.
I recently tutored one of my children through College Algebra and had fun solving the puzzles that were math homework alongside him. Next semester I'll be doing the same with Trigonometry. As I haven't done Trig in 37 years, you might want to wait until 2027 to have me tutor it. I'll be refreshing Calculus after that.
I love reading and in retrospect appreciate all the writing assignments I had in school. I recognize that all types of writing can undoubtedly spark creative inspiration, as well as a sense of accomplishment, and will enjoy supporting your children in their growth as writers.
I know I am happiest when I am outside in nature! If you and your child feel the same, I want to meet you!
Why we're outside:
Excerpts from UCLA Health's article, 7 health benefits of spending time in nature:

According to the American Psychological Association (APA), spending at least two hours per week out in nature can have benefits for both your physical and mental health.
Any time you are outside — rain or shine — you expose yourself to vitamin D, which is good for your immune system and your bones.
The forest air you breathe in is full of phytoncides, chemicals shed by forest plants. Phytoncides’ antifungal and antibacterial qualities stimulate your body to increase the white blood cells responsible for fighting tumor- and virus-infected cells.
Exposing yourself to green space can benefit your cognitive abilities in the short- and long-term.
Spending time in nature can also spark creativity. Research suggests that nature stimulates curiosity and helps recharge your focus and attention, which is critical when developing new ideas.
Studies show that spending time in a green space or natural environment can help reduce psychological stress.
It can alter the brain activity in your prefrontal cortex — the part regulating emotions.
Green space can also have a protective effect on depression risk.
